Trump Business Attempted to Hire Nearly 200 Employees on Work Permits in 2025

The former president’s family business increased its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, even as his government was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the same, a report published Thursday claimed.

Based on information from the US Department of Labor, the business aimed to hire at least nearly 200 foreign workers in the coming year for short-term roles at the US president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.

The number of requests for temporary work visas covering staff including waitstaff, office assistants, housekeepers, culinary employees and agricultural laborers was the highest ever filed by the organization, and increased from 121 in 2021, when his presidency ended.

It was also the fifth instance in a decade that the former president had attempted to hire over a hundred overseas workers for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, according to available data.

The revelation comes amid a crackdown on legal immigration by his government that has included the implementation of a substantial charge on skilled worker visas; increased review of the actions of the millions of people who possess US visas; and restrictive new rules for foreign students and journalists.

Overall, the business aimed to hire over 560 foreign laborers over the period Trump has been in the presidency, from his first term and during 2025.

Notably, Trump was questioned by certain in the GOP this period for comments justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy certain positions.

“You cannot just say a nation is coming in, going to spend billions to construct a facility, and going to take people off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start producing their defense systems. It doesn’t work that well,” he stated to a host after she suggested that overseas employees lower the pay of US workers.

The White House declined a request for response, and the Trump Organization did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
