Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
